There’s a growing trend in social media where Jesus is treated more like an aesthetic than the living Savior of the world. Cutesy verses written in pastel fonts, paired with “positive vibes” captions, can make it feel like faith is just another trend. But Jesus is not a brand to market or a mood to promote. He is the Alpha and Omega, the source of eternal hope, and our foundation in a world that’s increasingly chaotic.
Faith is not meant to be trivialized or watered down to fit into a curated Instagram feed. The Bible doesn’t call us to present a polished, picture-perfect Christianity. Instead, it calls us to put on the full armor of God and stand firm against the spiritual battles we face every day. This isn’t just metaphorical. The battle is real, and the stakes are high.
The Thin Veil Between the Physical and Spiritual Worlds
The Bible reminds us that our battle isn’t against flesh and blood but against the rulers, authorities, and spiritual forces of evil (Ephesians 6:12). The veil between the physical world and the spiritual realm is thin. Just because we don’t see spiritual warfare doesn’t mean it isn’t happening. Every day, the enemy is working to distract, discourage, and, ultimately, destroy us.
This is why we need to stop clothing ourselves in an aesthetic version of faith—one that looks good but offers no real protection—and instead clothe ourselves in the armor of God:
- The Belt of Truth: Holding to God’s Word as the absolute truth, not letting culture or feelings redefine it.
- The Breastplate of Righteousness: Guarding our hearts by living in obedience to God.
- The Gospel of Peace: Standing firm in the hope we have in Christ.
- The Shield of Faith: Deflecting the fiery darts of doubt, fear, and lies from the enemy.
- The Helmet of Salvation: Protecting our minds from the influence of the world.
- The Sword of the Spirit: Wielding the Word of God, which is alive and active.
The Danger of Lukewarm Christianity
Revelation 3:16 warns us about being lukewarm: “So, because you are lukewarm—neither hot nor cold—I am about to spit you out of my mouth.” Lukewarm Christianity is dangerous because it lulls us into complacency. It’s comfortable to focus on what looks good on the outside—modesty, demure aesthetics, the occasional scripture verse—but faith isn’t about appearances. It’s about being rooted in the Word, ready to stand firm when trials come.
Living as a Christian means actively engaging in spiritual warfare. We are called to deny ourselves, take up our cross, and follow Him (Matthew 16:24). This isn’t an easy call, but it’s necessary if we are to resist the evil that seeks to consume us.
How to Stand Firm
- Pray Up
Prayer is our direct line of communication with God. It strengthens us, equips us, and gives us the power to resist the enemy. Don’t just pray when you’re in need—pray as a daily practice of drawing closer to God. - Read Scripture Daily
The Bible is more than a collection of inspirational quotes. It’s the living Word of God, sharper than any double-edged sword (Hebrews 4:12). Immerse yourself in it so that you can recognize the lies of the enemy and replace them with truth. - Be Ready to Defend Your Faith
1 Peter 3:15 says, “Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have.” Know why you believe what you believe. This doesn’t mean you need to be a theologian, but it does mean being rooted in the truth of the gospel. - Surround Yourself with Believers
Community is critical in spiritual warfare. You need people who will pray with you, encourage you, and hold you accountable. Ecclesiastes 4:12 reminds us that “a cord of three strands is not quickly broken.”
The Hope We Have in Christ
Yes, the battle is real. But so is our hope. Jesus has already won the ultimate victory through His death and resurrection. While we face battles in this life, we can rest in the assurance that the war has already been won. The enemy cannot snatch away our salvation, and God’s promises will never fail.
Let’s stop trivializing Jesus as a trend or aesthetic and start living as warriors for Christ. Pray up, read the Word, and stand firm. The world needs believers who are not afraid to boldly proclaim the truth, not just in word but in action. Let’s rise to the challenge, put on the full armor of God, and take our stand against the schemes of the enemy.
Be strong in the Lord and in His mighty power (Ephesians 6:10).
