Love Quinn didn’t burn out because she was weak.
She burned out because she spent every waking moment trying to morph into the version of herself Joe needed—a version that didn’t even exist. She cooked. She conformed. She covered up bodies and cracked smiles. And all the while, she was drained by a man who claimed to love her, but only when she wasn’t too much.
Here’s the thing:
Most of us are not in toxic thrillers starring serial killers.
But too many of us are still living lives that exhaust us.
Not because we’re lazy.
But because we’re constantly shape-shifting for others—clients, partners, algorithms, expectations.
We give energy as if it’s infinite.
But it’s not.
You’re Not Tired. You’re Leaking Power.
Energy is your most valuable currency.
More than money.
More than time.
More than likes.
And yet? You spend it like spare change.
That 45-minute Zoom call that should have been a voice note?
The offer that you launched because “everyone else is doing it”?
That collaboration you said yes to out of guilt?
These things don’t just take time.
They siphon your momentum.
Do an Energy Ledger
Today, we’re getting brutally honest. (Joe would be proud.)
Take out a notebook—or open that Notes app—and create two columns:
DRAINS ME:
- Small talk with people who don’t respect my time
- Services I dread delivering
- Content I force out for consistency’s sake
- Comparing myself to someone else’s curated feed
- Saying yes when I mean no
ENERGIZES ME:
- Deep focus sessions where I lose track of time
- Meaningful convos with my audience or clients
- Creative bursts where I follow the dopamine
- Honoring my morning routine
- Saying no and not explaining why
Once you’ve written it down, sit with it.
Then ask yourself:
How can I do more of what energizes me… first?
Not after I finish everything.
First. Because your power deserves the spotlight.
Because the World Doesn’t Need More Burnt-Out Givers
You don’t have to fake your death like Joe to start over.
You just have to stop feeding your energy to things that don’t feed you back.
Here’s your permission slip to:
- Say no without a soft landing
- Delay a launch that doesn’t light you up
- Cancel a meeting to reclaim your momentum
- Make rest your strategy—not your reward
Protect your energy like it’s your main character trait.
Because it is.
Your Action Step Today:
Create your energy ledger.
Circle one thing you’ll do less of and one thing you’ll do more of—starting now.
And remember:
You don’t owe anyone the most energetic version of yourself if they’re the reason you’re drained.
